Redesign of Earth BaseMap

My map was inspired by the movie Saaho and is created for display in a gallery exhibit at the local art museum. Drawing from cartography principles, I designed the map using Mapbox Studio as the base map, which allowed me to customize the visual elements to align with the movie's aesthetics.

To represent the major cities where the antagonist searches for the orange secret boxes, I used orange-shaped semi-rounded pictures as icons on the map. These icons serve as visual representations of the significant city locations and create a connection to the movie's storyline.

The choice of colors and symbology on the map is an essential aspect of cartography. In this map, the base land color represents the building visuals from Saaho's cinematic city, while the creamy buildings reflect the protagonist's skin tone. This color scheme creates a visual contrast that helps distinguish between different elements on the map.

To further enhance the thematic representation, I used a red color to depict minor areas on the map, symbolizing the presence of blood on the protagonist's face. This choice of color adds an element of drama and intensity to the map, aligning with the movie's narrative.

In addition to the thematic icons, I incorporated various other symbols such as restaurants, pubs, educational institutions, golf courses, town halls, hospitals, and parking areas. These symbols help provide additional context and make the map more informative and engaging for the viewer.
